Engineering Club

This program is designed to introduce young people to the wonderful world of Engineering. Suitable for grades 3-5.

Course Description

Students will learn to look at the world through the eyes of an Engineer. They will be introduced to the Engineering Design Process, and we will use hands-on activities to demonstrate how it can be used to solve problems.

What young people will learn:

  • Acquaint students with the world of engineering

  • Get familiar with engineering terminology

  • Introduction to the engineering design process

  • How to use EDP to problem solve

  • The importance of 21st-century skills

Benefits of joining the club:

  • Build/design cool structures

  • Earn your engineers badges

  • Field trips to exciting engineering facilities

Benefits of introducing young people to Engineering at an early age:

  • Learning engineering from a young age can help to build skills in other subjects, such as science and math. Engineering can also help a child to understand real-world technologies and problems, thus allowing them to see how their other school subjects are relative to their lives and the world around them.

  • Engineering activities provide opportunities for children to grow and mature, and engineering design challenges promote social and emotional learning. As children engineers, they build empathy by working alongside their peers to solve a problem.

  • Learning from their mistakes, Engineering activities help to remove any shame that comes from failure. Failure is an important part of the problem-solving process and is a way of learning. There are also, no correct answers in engineering as problems can have many different solutions.

  • Students learn the importance of analyzing data, so it can be used for future projects.
